While this giant Galapagos tortoise was dominating the other male at Auckland Zoo he was not mating successfully with the females and needed to be separated from the group. It is important to breed these rare tortoises so it was decided to remove one male and allow the other to have access to the females without being chased away. As a result this 248kg 39 year old tortoise has arrived for an indefinite stay at The Reptile Park in quarters designed to suit his needs. |
